Business Intelligence Operating System

Connected reporting across five departments through one data model and agreed definitions, with executive and operational views built for their respective audiences.

5

Departments on one model

  • Business Intelligence
  • Dashboards
  • Operations

The business question

How could five departments work from consistent numbers?

Sales, marketing, IT, finance and operations maintained separate reporting. Questions spanning departments required figures to be reconciled first.

Manual reconciliation delayed cross-department analysis and made it harder for leadership to act on a consistent view of performance.

My contribution
Source mapping, data modelling and executive reporting

My approach

From the source data
to a commercial answer.

  1. Map the reporting

I traced source systems and identified where metric definitions differed across departments.

  2. Build a shared model

I connected the data around consistent definitions, with executive and operational views for their respective audiences.

  3. Validate the outputs

I checked figures against source records and reviewed onboarding and approval workflows to locate operational bottlenecks.

Data used in the analysis
  • Transaction systems
  • Customer acquisition records
  • Retention and churn data
  • Operational workflow data
  • Sales and marketing platforms
  • Finance records

The recommendation

Agree definitions and connect the reporting

Create one reporting layer with agreed metric definitions. Give executives a decision view and departments the operational detail, both supported by the same model.

What I delivered

  • Transaction and revenue dashboards
  • Acquisition and retention reporting
  • Profitability dashboards
  • Operational and approval workflow views
  • Central data models and validation rules

The outcome

What changed
for the business.

Leadership gained a shared reporting base for growth, customer experience and profitability, reducing the manual reconciliation needed for cross-department questions.

Sales, marketing, IT, finance and operations were connected through the reporting model. The five-department figure describes the scope delivered.

This example explains the method. The figures are illustrative and should be read separately from the project outcome.

Data Consolidation

5 sources, 1 model
1Version of the truth

Shared definitions keep executive and departmental reporting consistent.
